Collaborative child welfare and community partnerships are a key factor in shaping child welfare strategies and in delivering family-focused services. By working together to support families in the neighborhoods in which they live, a family’s natural support system can be used to promote long-term stability for parents reunifying with their children from foster care.
This May, during National Foster Care Month, we recognize the important role community partners play in meeting the needs of children and families involved with the child welfare system. Visit the Children’s Bureau’s National Foster Care Month website to learn how you can engage with your community and help spread the word about the needs of children and youth in foster care.
- Use the sample social media posts to help raise awareness about the ways in which the foster care system can support a process for strengthening families’ capacity to nurture and provide for their children’s’ well-being.
- Engage with your peers on the National Foster Care Month Facebook events tab to promote and learn about National Foster Care Month events going on in your hometown!
- Find and share resources designed to highlight how you can partner with your local child welfare agency to support and strengthen families
The website also provides tools to support your engagement with the local community and inspiring real-life stories from families with foster care experience.
